Islamabad High court on Wednesday issued the detailed judgement on Khatm-e- Nabuwwat case, in which it held parliament responsible for the criminal changes made in the Election Act 2017. The Court Also ordered the government to make the findings of Raja Zafar-ul Haq report public. The esteemed court in its decision has made the report by Raja zafar-ul- haq part of its 172 page judgement.

Haq’s Report had held former Federal minister Anusha Rehman and  law Minister Zahid hamid responsible for the controversial changes.

The court also acknowledged the failure of PCER to notice the changes in the clause when the final draft was presented to them for approval.

Background:

Following the disqualification of the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, PMLN in order to make him the president of the party again, had passed election act 2017 in which the clauses pertaining to Khatam -e- Nabuwwat were changed, apparently to facilitate the non muslim Qadiyani community by diminishing their separate identity as non muslims. After the controversial act was passed by the parliament large scale protests broke out all over the country, consequently the law minister Mr Zahid Hamid was forced to resign.
