The Petition by Shakeel Awan against Sheikh Rasheed seeking disqualification for life for concealment of assets has been dismissed. The three-member bench headed by Justice Shiekh Azmat Saeed announced the verdict.
The 2-1 decision was made in favor of Sheikh Rasheed saving him from disqualification for life. Justice Qazi Faiz Isa in his dissenting note suggested for the matter to be referred to full court.
Sheikh Rasheed was overwhelmed by the court’s decision. He said,
“Allah has given me respect and protected my honor once again, I have done nothing wrong and have concealed nothing”
Sheikh Rasheed warned that he is coming after Sharif brothers. He further added that Qazi Faiz Isa’s comments were misunderstood and used for propaganda against him in media.
During hearing the case Qazi Faiz Isa had questioned whether the concept of strict liability is applicable in a case where parliamentarian has made a mistake in filling his nomination paper or not and if it does then Shiekh Rasheed might face disqualification for life.
Head of Awami Muslim league reaffirmed that even if the decision has had been against him he would have respected and accepted it, he said I am not Nawaz Sharif and hoped to form govt in 2018 elections with PTI. He said
“I am a Pindi boy, Pindi has given me an identity, Pindi is mine”
On the other hand, Shakeel Awan showed his utter disappointment over the decision and said that even though Sheikh Rasheed had accepted that he has been involved misdeclaration of assets, yet courts have given a controversial decision. He said the decision shows how difficult it is to get justice in Pakistan, however, decided to keep pursuing the case till he finds justice.
