Accountability court granted third extension
The special bench headed by CJP Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing the application forwarded by accountability court seeking third extension for concluding trials against Sharif family, granted accountability court one more month to wrap up the trial. Nab deputy prosecutor general and nawaz sheriff lawyer Khuwaja Harris appeared before the court. Nawaz counsel requested the bench to allow the accountability court to conclude the trial in six weeks rather than one month. The special bench rejected the plea and ordered accountability court to fix hearing daily including Saturdays to make sure further extension is not required.
Chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar addressing the grievance advertised by Nawaz family with respect to court not allowing them to visit ailing Kalsoom Nawaz fighting cancer, remarked
“ if you request verbally to let Nawaz family visit Kulsoom Nawaz we will allow them but must inform the court the date of his return”.
Supreme court on July 28 2017 had ordered National Accountability commission to file reference against nawaz family and restricted the accountability court to conclude the case within 6 months. However even after taking extension twice, the accountability court failed to conclude the case and resorted to take another extension by honourable court.
Up till now accountability court has recorded testimonies of Nawaz family in Avenfield property reference only. Nawaz is yet to appear in court to record statement related to Al Azizia and flagship investment references. Wajid Zia the key witness and head of JIT is to appear in court on Monday for cross examination in Al-Azizia and Hill metal establishment reference. On Tuesday Avenfield reference has been fixed and Defence counsel Khawaja Haris and Amjad pervaiz will present final arguments in Avenfield reference.
